Module 4 Chapter 9 - Stitched Edges
Sample 6, When cleaning up, after dyeing and colouring papers and fabrics, I save the dye-soaked paper towels - I love the rich mixture of colour that blend together, plus they can be recycled into new paper pulp. I used paper towel strips to form an undulating edge. It was stitched, at intervals, to the paper, giving a puffy look to the edge.
Sample 7, Paper studs are pushed through the paper and threads wrapped around the studs.
Sample 8, Rat tail cord is hand-stitched to the paper edge - going around twice. The cord, with a few twist, also follows the contours in the papers, where different papers meet. Couching holds the the rat tail in place.
Sample 9, A fringed edge is made with fibers embedded into the pulp.
Sample 10, Layers of torn paper form a multi-edged paper; the layers were glued together. Although these edges are not stitched, they are embellished with thick gold paint.
