Grids dipped into paper pulp.
Sample 1. Scrim, with machine satin stitching was dipped into paper pulp; some pulp was peeled away to reveal the grid.
Sample 2. Narrow ribbons were wrapped on a plastic lid frame (center cut away, just leaving the rim). Coating the ribbons with pulp, while still on the frame, gave a nice 3-D look to this piece. After the pulp had dried I wondered if the grid would retain it's dimensionality when cut from the frame - it did. I found I could also remove the ribbons from the encasing paper and still not alter the shape of this grid, which now is only made of hollow paper tubes intersecting each other.
Sample 3. Waste threads (saved from frayed silk strips) were dipped, just one, two or three strands at a time, into the pulp. The coated threads were placed on a 'J' cloth at various angles.
